Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching FAQ

What is eating disorder recovery coaching?
Eating disorder recovery coaching is nonclinical support that helps you put recovery into practice in everyday life. It complements clinical treatment by offering guidance, accountability, and real-time support between your appointments, focusing on the day-to-day work of eating, coping, and rebuilding a life beyond the eating disorder.

How is a recovery coach different from a therapist or dietitian?
A therapist addresses the psychological roots of an eating disorder, and a dietitian handles nutrition and meal planning. A recovery coach supports the space between those appointments, helping you carry out what your treatment team recommends in real, everyday moments, from a difficult meal to a hard afternoon. Coaching complements clinical care and never replaces it.

Who is eating disorder recovery coaching for?
It's for people who are engaged in or have completed clinical treatment and want additional, personalized support putting recovery into practice. It's especially helpful for those who understand what recovery requires but struggle to live it consistently day to day.

Can recovery coaching work alongside my treatment team?
Yes. Recovery coaching is designed to complement therapy, dietetic, psychiatric, and medical care, not replace it. With your permission, coaching can reinforce the work you're already doing with your providers.

What happens between sessions?
Between weekly sessions, clients have text-based support during designated windows, so you're not navigating hard moments alone until your next appointment. This might mean support before a challenging meal, help resetting after a difficult day, or encouragement to follow through on a goal.

Do you offer virtual coaching?
Yes. Modern Eating Disorder Recovery provides private virtual coaching to clients across the United States. All sessions and support are offered remotely.

What does coaching cost?
Core Coaching is $3,000 per month and includes weekly private sessions, between-session text support, personalized resources, and a private Recovery Library. A one-time Recovery Intensive, a single 90-minute focused session, is also available for $950.

Is recovery coaching a substitute for medical or mental health treatment?
No. Recovery coaching is nonclinical and does not diagnose or treat medical or mental health conditions. It's meant to work alongside appropriate clinical care, and clients are encouraged to maintain their treatment team throughout.

How do I get started?
The first step is a short application, followed by a discovery call to explore whether coaching is the right fit for where you are. From there, we'll determine the best way to work together.
